Understanding Your Coverage
Mental health benefits can vary widely by insurance provider and plan. Typically, a client with commercial health insurance has a copayment for counseling sessions. To make the process easier, we recommend contacting your insurance company directly to verify the following:
-
Coverage for outpatient mental health services
-
Co-pay or co-insurance amounts
-
Deductible and out-of-pocket requirements
-
Authorization requirements (if any)

Here is a great resource on how to read your insurance card. Our team is happy to assist you in navigating these details to ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.

Sliding Scale for Therapy Sessions
We understand that everyone's financial situation is unique, so we offer a sliding scale to make counseling accessible for clients paying out of pocket. The scale adjusts session fees based on your annual income, ensuring affordability while maintaining high-quality care.

*This example is based on the 2024 Federal Poverty Level and the MIT Living Wage Calculator for a single, Massachusetts resident living in Essex County who is without children. Income is based on annual income before taxes.

**If your income is below 133% of FPL, then you are eligible for MassHealth. Apply here. If your income is greater than 133% of the FPL, then you can still enroll in a MassHealth plan with monthly premiums.
Out-of-Network Coverage
If we are not in-network with your insurance, I can provide you with a superbill. This is a receipt for services with codes that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan’s Out-of-Network Benefits.

Mentaya

If you are seeking reimbursement for out-of-network therapy sessions, I recommend Mentaya, a platform that simplifies the claims process and helps clients get money back from their insurance. Mentaya handles the paperwork and files claims on your behalf, making it easier to access your out-of-network benefits. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped clients recover significant amounts annually.
You can learn more and sign up here.

Please note: Using Mentaya is completely optional, and I do not receive any benefit from your participation. It is simply a tool I recommend for your convenience.
